I may not be able to call myself distinguished, but I have at least gathered enough wealth for the next few generations of my family. I desire nothing else. Here, I would like to specifically thank the phenomenal support you've constantly given to Marketing Team 166, Madam Jade.

I will not spend any time to present the recent deliverables and outcomes completed by Marketing Team 166 in this work report. Those results can be seen from the monthly job report filed by the team. The only purpose of this report is to recommend a particular member of my team to you: ███•████.

I trust that you have heard of ███•████'s experiences and achievements in some fashion or another. Veritas Ratio, who calls himself "Dr. Ratio," is as contentious as his research. In Ratio's homeworld, there are no less than eight documentaries detailing his legendary exploits, and over a dozen memoirs about him. However, despite the plethora of commentaries, none of them seems to provide a compelling perspective. To fill this void, I personally visited Professor Rond, who had a significant influence on Ratio's upbringing. Though advanced in years and unable to speak coherently, Professor Rond couldn't contain his excitement at the mention of Ratio's name. With the help of his family and students, I obtained a yellowed yet remarkably well-preserved letter of recommendation.


"To the respected admission committee of the University of Veritas Prime:

I am Rond, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Mathematics at the Cosmos Liberty University. Given your institution's reputation for valuing talents and education, I would like to recommend a student named Ratio to advance his studies at your university. Although Ratio is a high school student at the moment, his mastery of math, physics, and even philosophy has far exceeded the requirements for an undergraduate degree in many universities.

While he was under my tutelage, Ratio managed to solve complicated mathematical equations at an unexpectedly staggering speed. The undergraduates in my class struggled to even comprehend the concepts. Out of curiosity, I shared a manuscript about an equation named Rond's Conjecture in private. Although I'm the one who proposed the equation, I've been unable to prove it. After days of discussion, Ratio came up with a brilliant and stunning idea that managed to finally prove the equation in one strike. The paper will be published shortly, and you will see that I am speaking the truth.

Ratio showed remarkable perception, curiosity, and creativity during the time we spent together. He wakes up early every morning to exercise before diving straight into the sea of knowledge afterward. Perhaps, he is exactly what everyone would picture a genius to be — passionate, profound, fervent, and inherently dominating.

笔者观察到，在真理医生的支持者当中，像玛格丽特这样抱有惋惜之情的人不在少数。在他们看来，俱乐部没有吸纳拉帝奥这样的人，亦是一种「天才」怪异与偏执的表现。

It is widely speculated that Ratio aspires to join the Genius Society, though he has never spoken about the subject. No matter how amazing Ratio's accomplishments are in the eyes of the ordinary folks, Nous has never batted an eye at him. This issue has become a much-discussed mystery in the academic community over time. I reached out to Margaret, a former assistant of Ratio, and gathered some valuable testimony from her.

"Mr. Ratio has never talked about the Genius Society with me, but there's something I remember well, even till today... It happened when I was still Mr. Ratio's academic assistant. I'm mainly responsible for managing his correspondences to and from all over the cosmos and handling his interactions with the outside world."

"One day, I received a letter from Interastral Peace Corporation. I think... it was during the successful test-firing of the anti-planetary weapon Mr. Ratio had worked on for years. I could tell the solemnity of the invitation, so I excitedly passed it on to Mr. Ratio. Yet, he said nothing. I could sense his heavy silence even through the headgear. He then politely asked me to leave. The moment I closed the door, I heard a grim sigh followed by a self-deprecating laughter... Perhaps, he realized he would never be accepted into the Genius Society..."

"The rest is history. In my view, Mr. Ratio is a genius in the truest sense of the word, as his inventions have propelled many worlds forward. Is a scholar who heals the universe destined to be worthless than a genius who is confined to their own ivory tower? Sorry, I'm getting a little worked up. Please remove that statement."

From my observation, many of Dr. Ratio's supporters feel sorry for him like Margaret. In their opinion, the Society's failure to admit someone like Ratio is a manifestation of the eccentricity and narrow-mindedness of "geniuses."

博识学会内部素有「庸众院」的传闻，据称这一神秘组织汇集了学会的最强大脑。而拉帝奥以「庸人」自居，仿佛无形中印证了这一流言。联想到他和天才俱乐部的纠葛，这个名字总令人浮想联翩。庸人作为天才的反义词，往往要付出巨大的努力和代价才能追及后者的辙迹。拉帝奥自称庸人，到底是一种退缩，还是一种嘲讽，抑或是一种宣战？但无论如何，他以知识治疗思想之病的执着，无愧于「真理医生」之名。

Many believe that after joining the Intelligentsia Guild, Ratio will learn to smooth out his sharp personality to adapt to the Guild's practical and simplistic academic environment. But I must say Ratio is still his old self. Below is the original excerpt from the internal records that I have transcribed:

Roseth: Well, I'll do the honor then.
Roseth: I fully concur with your main ideas, but there's a detail that I find slightly confusing.
Veritas Ratio: Whenever someone agrees with me, I feel like I must be wrong.
Roseth: My question is, why do you think knowledge is a privilege?
Veritas Ratio: Dear Professor Roseth, your question indicates that you haven't fully grasped the content of my paper and do not understand the deductive methods I employed.
Veritas Ratio: To put it simply, you would be a great example. Your inability to comprehend my ideas shows precisely that knowledge is not for everyone.
Veritas Ratio: If ignorance is an ailment, it is the duty of scholars to weed it out and heal the universe.
Veritas Ratio walked to the podium, facing the crowd. Veritas Ratio: So, ladies and gentlemen, turning a blind eye to the folly of others is not an etiquette, but a wicked worldly practice. To spread knowledge, we must first make people realize their folly. The same surely applies to the scholars of the Guild.
Roseth shrugged and smiled bitterly.

Remark: A passionate hand holding an icy sword — that is probably the best way to describe Mr. Veritas Ratio. By blending logic, passion, and the art of criticism into one, Ratio presents to us how a great thinker perceives and reacts to ignorance. We strongly believe that the addition of Mr. Veritas Ratio will bring immeasurable benefits to the Intelligentsia Guild.

There are words about a mysterious organization within the Intelligentsia Guild called the "Council of Mundanites" that houses the brightest minds of the Guild. The fact that Ratio calls himself a Mundanite seems to affirm the rumor. It is hard not to read something into the organization's name, given Ratio's entangled history with the Genius Society. The mundane, as opposed to the ingenious, often has to make enormous efforts and sacrifices just to catch up with the latter. 格蕾和尼克小心翼翼地走上前去，抱起满脸通红、不停啼哭的婴儿。
他有一个好听响亮的名字，在「阿尔冈-阿帕歇」的古语里，那意味着一把上膛的枪。

他在格蕾与尼克的爱护下长大，和其他兄弟姐妹一同嬉戏成长。他们都来自不同的地方，但如今同属于这片广袤的大陆，「阿尔冈-阿帕歇」。

他体验过死里逃生的危险，他品尝过向敌对帮派报仇雪恨的滋味，他看过朋友被一梭子弹取走性命，一个家庭在瞬间分崩离析…他失去了许多人，也得到了许多，最后，他以自己的勇猛赢得了地位和尊重。

现在，他很少见到那些兄弟姐妹了，但他知道，他们都过得很好。
在沉沉的黑夜里，他看着天空，想着更大的世界，那声啼哭在寂静的夜里分外清晰。

Character Story: Part I

• Unlocked at Character Level 20

"Graey, there's a child there in the snow!"
Graey and Nick cautiously approached and picked up the red-faced child as he cried incessantly.
The child had a striking and beautiful name that in the ancient language of Aeragan-Epharshel meant "loaded gun."

He grew up under the love and protection of Graey and Nick, as he played happily with his siblings. Though they all came from different places, they all now belonged to this vast continent of "Aeragan-Epharshel."
Graey took him to learn about plants, animals, and rivers. Nick taught him how to tame horses and farm sheep. At a young age, he rode his colt across streams and followed Nick as they led their cattle to fields rich in water and greenery under the morning sun. Nick would always sing loudly as the light shone over the brilliant clouds. When he heard Nick raise his voice in song, he would open his mouth and release a clear and crisp song of his own. As he kicked at the colt's belly to take him faster, their laughter would spread further and further into the distance.

As Graey and Nick raised the children day after day, their backs began to stoop with old age.
Since becoming a cowboy, he mastered every skill there was to hunting. They charged through the sandy wastelands fighting bandits, making deals with merchants, and battling for places to survive with the beasts of the wilderness.
He had narrowly escaped death, tasted the flavor of taking revenge on a rival gang, seen friends lose their lives in the flight of a bullet and seen families fall apart in mere moments... He lost many, yet gained a lot as well. In the end, his courage earned him status and respect.

Now, he rarely sees his siblings, but he knows that they are living well.
In the silent night, he stares at the sky and thinks about the greater world outside, when the sound of cries resounded loud and clear through the stillness of evening.
Following the sound, he discovered a red-faced baby that would not stop crying. He had no idea what to do. But, he eventually picked her up as Graey had done so long ago before, and brought her home.

The sound of Nick's gruff voice resounded in his ears...
"The water here is smooth as fine wine,
the cold snow is cutting like a knife,
this place is...
the perfect world."

飞船投下的阴影遮住了草原的月光。

他从呼啸而过的火车上跳下。浓烟和尘灰散去的时候，他早已提着战利品回到了营地。

他仰头看着这群不速之客。衣冠楚楚的黑衣人走下飞船的甲板，在全副武装的守卫护送下走进牛仔们的驻地。他接住黑衣人称为联觉信标的东西，陌生宏大的名词闯入他的脑海，他第一次知道了在草原、森林、河流、铁轨之外，银河中还有万千闪耀的世界。

无视当地人的反对，巨大的挖掘机出现在草原的天际线，大地开始涌流出黑色的矿产。全副武装的警卫亵渎他们的信仰，驱赶他们离开自己的家园，以微不足道的赔偿侮辱他们的尊严。

同以前一样，他和同伴以游击作战的方式拖延黑衣人的前进，但在绝对的武力面前，牛仔的阴谋诡计、百发百中的枪法、日行千里的良驹…无一不显得如此原始和可笑。随着一个又一个家人的离世，他意识到，如果不能找到这一切的始作俑者，那么这场事端将永无解决的机会。

他穿上偷来的员工制服，趁夜潜入飞船。凭着多年捕猎练就的直觉与灵敏，他无声无息地放倒路上的警卫，躲过层层关卡与盘问，来到了核心的舱室。

他看到一个男人的背影，他似乎在朝面前的下属说着什么。
「……阿尔冈-阿帕歇蕴藏着重要的战略资源。谁能先抢到手，就能在部门竞争中占上风。既然野蛮无礼的牛仔们不愿意与市场开拓部合作，我们不得不代为管理这个世界。
时间已经不多了。你们可以使用武力，为这个世界带来文明。」

一个恐怖的想法闯入他的脑海，他慌不择路地朝外跑去。周围的员工还在嘻嘻哈哈开着玩笑，他屏住呼吸、忍住怒火和眼泪——他的家人还需要他，他不能停下脚步。

炮火从天而降，当他跌跌撞撞回到沦为地狱的牧场，年迈的格蕾、尼克和从小一起长大的伙伴早已葬身火海。他有一丝侥幸，期望能找到那个小小的身影——她才学会走路不久，会使劲拍他给她做的小木吉他，然后咯咯地笑。但是没有，什么都没有，故土只有一片焦黑——他甚至来不及为他们立一块墓碑。

「星际和平公司…市场开拓部……」
这噩梦一般的名字和场景，将在今后的岁月里刻入他的骨髓，成为他脱胎换骨也无法忘却的事物。

据「阿尔冈-阿帕歇」星球志记载，世代游牧于其上的民族自一场起因不明的大灾难后销声匿迹，残存的老少在越来越小的自留地栖居，时至今日，那黑色的矿产依旧作为稀有的金属大量运用于制造高功率的武器，被一艘艘公司的货运舰送往更多的星球。  

Character Story: Part II

• Unlocked at Character Level 40

The shadow cast down by the spaceship eclipsed the moonlight across the plains.

He jumped from the speeding train as it passed by with a roar. By the time the smoke and dust had settled, he'd already made it back to his base with his bounty.

He raised his head to look up at the uninvited guests above. Well-dressed people in black walked out from the deck of the spaceship under the escort of guards armed to the teeth and onto the cowboy's land. He took something that the person in black called a "Synesthesia Beacon," as great, strange visions flooded into his mind. This is the first time he learned of the endless shining worlds outside the plains, forests, streams, and tracks that he knew.

Giant excavators appeared on the horizon of the plains, completely disregarding protests from the locals. Then, black ore began to stream forth from the earth below. The heavily armed guards blasphemed against the local's beliefs, cast them out of their homes, and insulted their honor with meager compensation.

As always, he and his partners turned to guerrilla warfare to fight off the advance of the people in black. However, in the face of absolute military might, the cowboys' schemes, marksmanship, and swift mounts all seemed so primitive and laughable. As the members of his family died one after another, he realized that unless he found the person who started all of this, he would never be able to bring things to an end.

He put on a worker's uniform that he stole and snuck aboard the spaceship under the cover of night. With the instincts and sharp senses he had honed over years of hunting, he silently took down every guard that stood in his way and cleared every checkpoint and interrogation to reach the core cabin.

He saw the figure of a man who seemed to be saying something to his subordinates.
"Aeragan-Epharshel contains crucial strategic resources. He who claims it first will take great advantage in departmental competition. As these savage and uncivilized cowboys are unwilling to cooperate with the Marketing Development Department, we have no choice but to assume administration of this world on their behalf.
We are running out of time. You are permitted to use military force and bring civilization to this world."

A terrifying thought rushed into his mind. He frantically ran out. Around him, the employees were still joking and laughing. He held his breath and stifled his rage and tears... His family still needed him. He could not just stop here.

Cannon fire rained down from the heavens. By the time he stumbled back to the farm that had now been reduced to ashes, the elderly Graey and Nick, as well as all the friends he'd grown up with, had already lost their lives to the sea of flames. He held on to a faint glimmer of hope that he would be able to find that tiny figure... She had only learned to walk a while ago and would gently slap at the little wooden guitar he had made for her and giggle. But no. There was nothing. The land was scorched black... he didn't even have time to erect a gravestone for the ones he'd lost.

"The Interastral Peace Corporation... The Marketing Development Department..."
This sight and these names rang through his mind like a nightmare that went on to be etched into his core. Even if he were to die and be born again, he would never forget this.

According to the planetary records of Aeragan-Epharshel, the locals who roamed and farmed the land for generations were wiped out by an unknown disaster. The survivors, mostly frail elderly and youth, now only shelter in smaller and smaller reservations. To this day, that black ore is still used in massive quantities as a rare metal to create devastating weaponry, and is shipped out to more and more planets on fleets of IPC transport ships.
