分为单数和复数，有不可数名词概念（抽象、物质、天气、集合名词、动植物、名词化的不定式、数量和尺寸）
所有复数的定冠词都是die，复数名词的构词法（虽然常常存在例外）：

1.阴性词尾：
-e（不绝对）, -in, -frau, -ei, -keit, -heit, -schaft, -ung, 以-ät, ik, -ion, -ur, -enz为结尾的外来词
树名和很多花名为阴性
2.中性词尾
-chen, -lein, -ment, -nis, -tum, um
动词、形容词的名词化时为中性
3.阳性词尾
-er（多数）, -en, -ig, -ling, 外来词中的 -or, -ismus, -ist...

带冠词的名词用于第二格位于另一名词后，表示所属关系
（一）名词的性
阳性：der 中性：das 阴性：die
人的生理性别与名词的语法属性一致（但注意，以-chen结尾的指小词总是中性（das），如das Mädchen）
备注：指小词是指在形式上具有特定的语法或形态标记，通常用于表示事物小、数量少、时量短或动量小。
