年轻的戍卫官站在北方的城垛上。

他俯瞰惨白的无际大地。他见裂界的异形在茫茫雪线中结成翻滚的阴云。他见无畏的铁卫凭城列队立定，仿佛一道坚实的胸墙。

那是他原本的位置。在他尚且是个不起眼的列兵时，便已发誓成为贝洛伯格最坚固的盾牌，应与战友同生共死——哪怕是当上了戍卫官也不例外——这绝非铁卫围炉夜话时的戏言，因那克里珀正是此誓之见证。

然而，此时的他却未能出现在他应至的地点——这正是大守护者的要求。

大守护者究竟是作何考虑？年轻的戍卫官想不明白。不过，他很快就勒令自己将注意力放在眼下的战事上。

Character Story: Part I

• Unlocked at Character Level 20

The young captain stands atop the northern rampart.

He surveys the pale wastelands before him, and watches the strange beings from the Fragmentum forming a broiling swarm in the distance amid the snow. He sees the fearless Silvermane Guards lining up in formation to guard the city, like a defensive parapet.

That was his original position. Back when he was still a humble private, he'd sworn to serve as Belobog's strongest shield and pledged to live and die with his comrades. This hasn't changed when he became a captain. This isn't some fireside joke of the Silvermane Guards, because Qlipoth is testimony to this oath.

However, right at this time, he isn't where he should be — and this is at the request of the Supreme Guardian.

What exactly is the Supreme Guardian thinking? The young captain has no idea. But he soon forces himself to focus on the conflict at hand.

"Remember, Gepard Landau."
"Doubt breeds arrogance, and doubt breeds evil. As a model for Belobog, you shouldn't overthink."

在众人的注视下，大守护者为此役中军功最为卓著之人颁授奖励。出身于贝洛伯格望族的年轻戍卫官默默地佩戴那由地髓锻成的臂甲——轻便、灵活、强韧，同时散逸着极光般的辉彩——这是他对这件珍宝的全部印象。

如此荣耀的勋章是用多少战友的生命换来的？他逼迫自己不去想这件事。当下的他只能以笑容迎合大守护者与贝洛伯格的期待，因为这才是一名忠诚的卫士该做的。

在戍卫官将臂甲佩戴完全的那一瞬间，激烈的辉光从甲胄的连接处进射而出。下一刻，典礼的观众席上爆发出经久不息的热烈掌声。

人们看不到众铁卫盔面下的倦容——他们以为这是一场凯旋。  

Character Story: Part II

• Unlocked at Character Level 40

After the most epic of battles, the few surviving Silvermane guards made their way back to Belobog. The Supreme Guardian ordered an immediate parade to celebrate this hard-earned victory. For more than three days and nights, the whole city reveled in a carnival with great laughter and joy. The celebration reached its climax at an awards ceremony for the Silvermane Guards.

Under the watchful gaze of the crowds, the Supreme Guardian presented an award to the greatest soldiers for outstanding military service. This young captain from a noble house quietly puts on the arm armor forged out of Geomarrow — Light, flexible, and strong, while radiating a light reminiscent of auroras — That's the only impression he had of this treasure.

How many of his comrades' lives had been exchanged for such a glorious medal? He forces himself not to think about it. For now, he could only meet the expectations of the Supreme Guardian and all of Belobog with a smile — because this is what a loyal soldier must do.

The moment the captain finishes putting on the arm armor, a brilliant beam of light shoots out from the joints between the plates. The crowd erupts into a spontaneous and prolonged applause.

Nobody sees the weary faces beneath the helmets of those Silvermane Guards — they merely thought this is a triumphant victory.

大守护者的决策是正确的。

战事过后，贝洛伯格的许多人终于暂歇一口气，重新拾起那尚不完整的简单日常。然而，包括戍卫官在内的人们并不知道——待虚伪的和平过后，他们即将面对的只有更加惨烈的长期拉锯；若无外物干涉，这旷日持久的战事将以贝洛伯格的陨落作结。

此时，他正在寝室中检查自己的盾牌“壁垒”是否运转如初。这架沉重的力场防护装置由他的姐姐用琴盒亲手改装而成一一如果真出了什么问题，可怜的戍卫官恐怕又要向那位历来放飞自我的摇滚明星求援了。

“杰帕德，如果，我是说如果，”他想起她的话，“如果有一天，大守护者命令你放弃贝洛伯格的人民，只为了实现她的某个目的…你会怎么做？”
“她绝不会那么做。她是大守护者。”他很坚定。
“我是说如果。”她看着他。
“我不清楚你为什么如此发问，但我已向克里珀立下存护誓言。我将捍卫贝洛伯格与她的人民，不计任何代价——当然也包括我的生命。”
“如果有一天，保护人民意味着违抗大守护者的命令，并且无论如何选择都会令我深陷险境，那我仍会选择前者。因为这才是我该做的事。”
他们沉默。然后，她大笑。
“杰帕德啊杰帕德……”

“你不愧是我们朗道家的人。”  

Character Story: Part III

• Unlocked at Character Level 60

The Supreme Guardian made the correct choice.

After the war, many residents of Belobog could finally let out a sigh of relief and pick up the pieces of their simple lives. However, not even the Captain himself could have imagined that after this facade for peace, they would face an ever more tragic all-out war. Without outside help, this protracted war would usher in the demise of all Belobog.

Right now, he is checking whether his shield, Earthwork, is still functioning as before. This heavy force field device was hand-crafted by his sister out of an instrument case — and if anything is broken, the poor captain would have to rely on his rockstar of a sister to help fix it.

"Gepard, if — and I do mean, if — " he thinks back to her words, "If one day, the Supreme Guardian orders you to abandon the people of Belobog to complete some goal of hers... What would you do?"
"She would never do that. She is the Supreme Guardian." He was resolute.
"I'm speaking hypothetically." She looked at him.
"I'm not sure why you're asking, but I've pledged an Oath of Preservation to Qlipoth. I will protect Belobog and her people at any cost — including my own life, of course."
"If one day, protecting the people means disobeying the Supreme Guardian's orders — and if either choice would land me in danger — then I'd still choose the former, because that is what I'm supposed to do."
They both fell silent, before she laughed out loud.
"Gepard, oh Gepard..."
"You really are a Landau, aren't you?"

象征发起进攻的悠扬风笛声在大气中炸响，刹那间撕碎了雪幕——身着蓝衣的骁勇战士们响应乐声的召唤，纷纷架起长戟，将枪头对准了如风暴般聚涌的异界怪形。在炮火的掩护下，他们开始了有死无生的冲锋。

杰帕德•朗道，你又作何考虑？年轻的戍卫官极尽所能思考。

Character Story: Part IV

• Unlocked at Character Level 80

The young captain stands atop the northern rampart.

He glances out the corner of his eye at the esteemed Guardian. He sees her head held high as she gazes into the blizzard, as if nothing in the city below has anything to do with her. Her people could not make her happy or angry, sad, or scared. There is only emptiness in those eyes.

What exactly is the Supreme Guardian thinking? The young captain racks his brains, but could not find any answer.

The cacophony of elegant bagpipes explodes in the air to signify the beginning of the assault, instantly shredding the snow curtain — and those brave warriors in blue uniform respond to the call, lifting up their halberds one after the other and pointing the tips at the swarming hordes of alien monsters. Beneath the cover of artillery, they commence their charge to the death.

Gepard Landau, what should you think about this? The young captain racks his brains.

"Remember, Gepard Landau — "
"You will defend Belobog and her people at any cost — you will never let down the people you're supposed to protect... Never bring the Landau name into shame!"

This time, the young captain finally finds his answer
— as he strides out towards the battlefield.

符玄

角色详情
仙舟“罗浮”太卜司之首，自信耿直的智者。
凭借第三眼与穷观阵为仙舟占算航路，预卜事务吉凶，坚信自己所做的一切便是事情的“最优解”。
符玄等待着将军承诺的“退位让贤”，然而这一天的到来…似乎还遥遥无期。

Character Details

The head of the Xianzhou Luofu's Divination Commission and a confident, no-nonsense sage.
Using her third eye and the Matrix of Prescience, Fu Xuan calculates the Xianzhou's navigational route and predicts the fortune of future events. She firmly believes that everything she does is the "best solution" for the situation.

Fu Xuan is waiting for the general's promised "abdication." However, that day still seems... very far away.

多年以后，符玄总会想起自己获准踏入“图书馆”提问的那一日。

“你在想什么？”戴着墨镜的盲眼老者手拄拐杖，侧首静待她的回话。

“所有那些可以选择的时刻…是否早已注定？还是说，如果在那一瞬间，我若能算得更准一些，哪怕再精确万分之一，我就能做出正确的选择，让他们不必离开？”少女半闭双眸，似问似答。

“每时每刻的我们，都站在自己足迹布下的迷阵中心。”盲眼老人轻轻顿了顿手杖。“我给不了答案。我只能给予问题…和看见问题的眼界。而你一路走来，向我所求的想必也不是答案。”

“那就给我‘眼睛’吧。无论命运是否从一开始就被注定了，身为卜者，我都想看得更清楚一些。”

“如你所愿。但仙舟人的肉身长存，接受我给予的‘眼睛’，就意味着接受永恒的痛苦。比起求知工具，它会更像是…‘刑具’。”

“这岂不是正合遍智天君的信条——知识要用苦痛来换取。我不想在未来的选择上犯下同样的错误。”

在受赐“眼睛”的昏昧中，她看见了许多往事。

她看见幼时的自己正襟危坐，手不释卷。她看见父亲怜爱地点着她的眉心，自豪地称赞她聪慧灵秀。她看见长辈向她展示符氏一族作为玉阙仙舟观星士世家的荣耀历史。她看见卜者们运筹如仪，为她占得辉煌的未来——她将登上“太卜”的宝座。

“这就是我的未来？”

“一饮一啄，莫非前定。这就是你的宿命。卜测结果已上呈太卜竟天大人，他答应亲自为你督教课业。这可是天大的福分啊。”

所有过去交叠在概率的烟雾中，似梦似真，在意识的边缘变化来去，延伸成数不尽的未来。她尽力分辨，在浩瀚的瞬间里寻找她正式成为卜者的那一日。  

Character Story: Part I

• Unlocked at Character Level 20

Even after the stretch of many years, Fu Xuan would always think of the day she got permission to enter "the library" and ask her question.

"What are you thinking about?" The blind elder wearing sunglasses awaited her response in silence, tilting his head and holding to his cane for support.

"Are all those moments when we can make a choice... already fixed by fate? Or is it that, if I managed a more accurate divination by even the most minute amount at that time, I could have made the right choice and prevented them from leaving?" The girl's eyes were half-closed, and she spoke her question akin to an answer.

"Across each and every moment, we stand at the center of a maze laid out by our own footprints." The old, blind man softly shifted his cane. "I cannot give you an answer. I can only give you a problem... and the capacity to perceive the problem. And considering the journey that brought you here... what you seek probably isn't an answer anyway."

"Then give me the 'eye.' Regardless if destiny is foreordained or not, as a diviner, I wish to possess a clearer sight."

"As you wish. But the people of the Xianzhou are ageless in flesh. To accept my 'eye' means to bear timeless pain. Rather than a tool, it is more like an.... 'instrument of torture.'"

"Aren't these the very words of the Wisdomwalker's creed? Knowledge exchanged with pain. I do not wish to make the same mistake in my future choices."

...

In the stupor that followed the bestowal of her "eye," she witnessed a great many past happenings.

She saw herself during childhood, sitting upright and diligent in her studies; her father tenderly brushing the point between her brows, proudly praising her intellect and wit; her elders revealing to her the Fu family's gloried history serving as the Xianzhou Yuque's stargazers. She saw the operations and rites conducted by diviners, divining the brilliant future for her where she would claim the throne of master diviner.

"Is this my future?"

"All things are fated and should not be sought out by human efforts. This is your destiny. The divination results have been submitted to Master Diviner Jingtian, and he has agreed to personally supervising your tutelage. This is an immense fortune you have been blessed."

All the past is layered in the mists of probability, shifting on the edges of consciousness between dreams and reality, and extending forward into futures uncountable. She strove to find the day she became a diviner in the vastness of all moments.

那一日，玉阙仙舟的瞰云镜下，符玄拜见业师。但她无法置信眼前之人就是族中长辈奉若神人的太卜：男人穿着半旧的飞行士短打，行止无仪地箕坐在地，专注望向投影阵列里不断变化交织的光点。

“末学符玄，向太卜大人问安。”犹豫半天，少女开口。

男人目不稍动，只是竖起一指，示意她看向图示。符玄留意到他的手不知为何被换成了木制机巧。“玉阙的鸣珂卫正在塔拉萨布防，策应曜青舰队围剿孽物。你应该有所耳闻吧？不过，命中注定他们赢不了这一战。”

“哦？曜青舰队武德昭昭，罕逢敌手。按战报所示，我军人数和战舰倍于步离人的猎群。怎么会有攻而不克的道理？”

“问得好。看来你不是一个轻易认命的学徒。”男人起身拍了拍沾灰的衣摆。“卜者知命而不认命，尝试在不同的可能中寻求最优的选择，这很好。不过有时候，无论你怎么选，命运都只有摆在面前的一条道路。当推占完毕时，面前只剩下凶与大凶两个不同结果时，你会怎么选？”

“…两害相权，自然是取其轻者。这是卜筮学的第一课。”

“但若以人类的眼界，无法权衡轻重呢？”男人转过身来。

“这次推占，是由新布成的阵法‘十方光映法界’演算所得。结果有二：借调曜青仙舟的鹤羽卫，或是改调方壶仙舟的玄珠卫，二者可择其一。取鹤羽卫，固然能仗其兵势，强攻一时，但此后再无告捷之机。取玄珠卫，则必须忍受方壶所处之地间关迢迢，要将战期拖延六个月之久，忍受敌人多次反扑，损兵折卒自不必提。但能坚持守势直至援军到来，便有胜利的可能。”

“想来他们选了前者。”

“是啊。卜算结果只能参赞谋略，却不能代替将军下决定。他选了眼前损害最小的方案。但我也没算错，这场失败是命中注定的结果。”

“按兵书倍则战之的原则，调用曜青的军力也未必是下下之选。何况，世无定事，太卜怎么就能如此肯定，说的好像一切必然会发生？”

“世无定事？”男人重重叹了口气。“我原本也这么想…最初得出占卜结果时，以为是计算出了差错，但重演之后，结果并无变化。于是我决心亲自上场求证。”

“这几周以来，我深入塔拉萨，与孽物作战，取得当地的水居者文明的信任。得到了一条惊人的消息：受其月亮扰动，一个月后，被塔拉萨人称为‘恶魔潮’的大潮汛即将降临。”

“若无方壶持明的云吟师相助，无人能在那般恶劣的环境下与怪物持续战斗。这条情报不见载于任何博物志，也不载于我军的智库。而为了多此一举地证实它，我付出了这只手作为代价。”

男人苦笑着高举木手晃了晃。“有时候，命运的道路自始至终只有一条。一切都是命中注定的。”

“对了，不必叫我太卜。从今天起，你应当称我为‘师傅’。”  

Character Story: Part II

• Unlocked at Character Level 40

On that day, Fu Xuan sought her master beneath the Cloudpeer Telescope of the Xianzhou Yuque, but found herself unable to believe that the man before her was the master diviner her elders had regarded so reverently. He wore a somewhat aged pilot's outfit and was unceremoniously seated on the ground with his attention dedicated entirely to the shifting of the interwoven light rays in the array.

"Your humble student, Fu Xuan, comes bearing her respects, Master Diviner." Such were the words spoken by the girl after a period of hesitation.

The man's stare remained still. He but lifted a finger as a signal for her to regard the display. Fu Xuan noticed his hand had, for some reason, been changed to a wood-made ingenium. "The Yuque's Echojade Fleet are currently laying out a defense at Thalassa in coordination with the Yaoqing's encirclement and eradication of abominations. You should have heard of this, yes? However, they are fated to lose this battle."

"Huh? The Yaoqing is noted for its martial prowess and is rarely rivaled. According to intelligence, our forces outnumber and outmatch the borisin. How can victory be denied if an attack is commenced?"

"Well asked. You don't seem like an apprentice that just accepts things." The man stood up and patted down his dust-coated sleeves. "A diviner is aware of destiny, but not a slave to it. Testing different possibilities to find the best choice is wise. However, sometimes, though try you might to find the best option, destiny will only grant you a single path forward. After your divination is complete, when your only outcomes are the bad and the worse, what will you choose?"

"...When one is faced with two kinds of venom, naturally the choice is the one that possesses lesser harm. This is the first lesson of divination."

"But what if we are unable to judge the severity of these matters from the perspective of a human?" The man turned.

"This divination is gleaned from the newly arranged 'Deca-Light Reflection Barrier' matrix. There are two outcomes: To temporarily transfer the Heroncrest Fleet of the Xianzhou Yaoqing, or to draw from the manpower of the Ebonpearl Fleet of the Fanghu. Only one choice can be made. To use the Heroncrest Fleet means being able to press a strong offense for some time, but lose any hope of success thereafter. To use the Ebonpearl Fleet means we must endure the vast distances between us and the Fanghu and have the conflict drag on for six months. During this time, we must also withstand multiple counterattacks from the enemy, and I will neglect going over the losses that are certain to come. But should the defense hold until aid arrives, then victory may well become possible."

"They went with the first option, I presume?"

"Correct. Divination can provide counsel and guidance, but only the general can make the final decision. He chose the path that would lead to the smallest loss. This didn't invalidate my divination, of course — defeat was the predetermined outcome."

"The treatises on the art of war state that an advantage in numbers speaks favorably for initiating battle, and calling on the aid of Yaoqing's forces may not be the worst possible decision. Moreover, nothing is ever certain in this world. How can you be so sure, master diviner? How can you speak as if all have been predestined?"

"Nothing is ever certain in this world?" The man sighed heavily. "I thought the same thing when the divination results appeared... I thought there must have been an error in the calculations. However, the results did not change after the re-analysis. I therefore resolved to head to the battlefield and seek evidence myself."

"I had ventured deep into Thalassa the past few weeks, fought the abominations, and gained the trust of the local water dwellers. That was how I received a shocking piece of news: Within a month's time, a great tide known to the Thalassans as the 'Devil's Tide' — caused by the gravitational influence of their moon — will arrive."

"None will be able to keep fighting the abominations in such abyssal conditions without the help from the Fanghu Vidyadhara's cloudhymn magi. This piece of intel does not exist on any guide, nor is it recorded in our army's data bank. Only that, in order to validate my results in a moment of superfluous effort, I gave my hand as the price."

The man smiled bitterly and lifted his wooden hand in a wave. "Sometimes there is only ever one path in destiny. Everything is predetermined."

"By the way, you don't need to address me as master diviner. You should call me 'Teacher' from today onward."
