【Weekly Topic 2025.04.28】Reimagining Labor Day

5樓 liga 2025-5-1 17:53
“labor day”、“labor day”,was created to memorise the fighting humans, so was supposed to be translated into "劳工节”,not“劳动节”.The little trick in translation really made me depressed and angry, I never thought trick could even be used in such a thing. We were educated to be proud of dedicating ourselves to doing more work since childhood, other than focus on our rights.I hope its Chinese name was changed one day, it must be a very good sign which brings hope and dawn.

In fact, the word "labor" also has the meaning of "workers". But “labor” is usually related to abstract concepts or collective workers (also "organised labors" means "the union of workers")

And of course, there is a need to discuss if the present Chinese name of Labor Day is correct.

回复 @啊啊是谁都对:By the way, "labor" in "Labor Law" is also this → abstract concepts or collective workers

回复 @啊啊是谁都对:Yeah,I 've specially searched the meaning of “labor” before commented. Considered Labor Day's origin, it's reasonable to treat this "Labor" as "劳工", not so called "劳动".
