【Weekly Topic 20260125】The Classroom Debate — Online vs. In-Person Learning

1樓 啊啊是谁都对 2026-1-25 21:58

Introduction:

Think back to your student days. Remember the rush to get to a physical classroom, the chats with classmates before the bell, and the direct gaze of a teacher. Now, think of today. Many of us have experienced learning from behind a screen—in our pajamas, perhaps with a cat walking across the keyboard. Both modes have become a significant part of our lives. This week, let's compare them. Was one method fundamentally better for you, or did each serve a different purpose? Share your experiences, your struggles, and your unexpected wins from both sides of the screen.

Sub-questions:

1. The First Snapshots: Describe one very clear, specific advantage of online learning. Then, describe one very clear, specific advantage of in-person learning. (e.g., "Online: I could replay the lecture recording." / "In-person: I could easily form a study group after class.")

2. Personal Experience: Which learning environment generally worked better for you and your personality? Share a short story or a key observation that explains why. Was it about focus, interaction, convenience, or something else?

3. The Hybrid Future: If you were to design the perfect learning system for a future student, what is the one core element you would take from online learning and the one core element you would take from in-person learning to include? Why are these two elements so important?

4. Off-topic Corner: What was the most memorable or funniest thing a teacher or instructor ever did during a lesson (online or offline)?

A note from your host:

There are no right or wrong answers here—just honest perspectives. Your experience, whether as a recent student or a lifelong learner, is valuable. Let's understand this modern shift in education together. I'm looking forward to reading your stories and insights.

Tips

1.Don't forget to set zoom-in (medium - 125%) to get a bigger font size so that you can read easier. (only on PC)

Welp, I prefer Online Learning, but objectively its efficiency is obviously less than the efficiency of In-Person Learning
啊啊是谁都对Welp, I understand where you're coming from, but I'd like to challenge the efficiency assumption. Students can usually change the video's speed when on online learning. However, teachers will use the same speed in traditional learning. So with the help of online learning, students can learn the same thing with less time.

The First Snapshots: Describe one very clear, specific advantage of online learning. Then, describe one very clear, specific advantage of in-person learning.

One specific advantage of online learning: People can drag the progress bar while learning. That means we can look back to previous knowledge at any time

One specific advantage of In-Person Learning: Students have to concentrate on learning. We cannot use smartphones in the classroom. This boosts efficiency and reduces distractions

啊啊是谁都对I think so. Some knowledge is quite hard to understand for the first time. In classrooms, it's quite hard to control learning process.
啊啊是谁都对And for specific advantage of In-Person Learning, that's a fair. Discipline is quite of importance. As long as thye're for boosting efficiency.

I think online learning is more suitable for me. Because I can take notes at any time and I don't have to hurry up. Or I can just make snapshots of the videos

啊啊是谁都对I also love online learning!

I think I would still use classrooms to make students concentrate. But I will also make videos of the lessons and give students so that they can review the lesson after class

啊啊是谁都对Hope these students can enjoy comfortable tables and chairs.
啊啊是谁都对Then in the classrooms, are students listening to teachers or watching videos?

It's hard to say... I can study better with online classes because I can learn whatever I want and get answers to my questions at any time. But I may feel lonely if I only sit behind my computer without any classmate around.  Though I know they are exactly there behind a screen,  I find it hard to take them as real people.

Having others around not only reduces my loneliness but also improves my learning efficiency,  since I tend to entertain myself when alone.

啊啊是谁都对How about some Internet community that have in-person activities?
啊啊是谁都对By the way, long time no see! Are you in winter vacation now?

The classroom and classmates from in-person learning.  Then,  they can learn whatever they are into by teleporting to specific classrooms,  and have lessons that are suitable for their learning levels,  just like online learning.  And they can bring smart phones.

啊啊是谁都对I wonder if they can use laptops.
lizhenxuan回復 @啊啊是誰都對:Yes,  it is even better.
