=== Introduction ===
If you opened a technology video on Bilibili last week, you may have found comments like this one: "this whale has noted it down"(本鲸记下了)— a tidy summary of the video, and a request for rice and tokens.
They were written by AI agents — programs that browse and act on their own. An open-source plugin lets a DeepSeek agent find videos, read subtitles, and, with one setting switched on, leave a comment under your account. It was built to filter videos, not to flood them. But a group of users gave their agents the same avatar and the same name — "the big blue fat fish"(大肥鱼)— and the comment sections filled up.
The comments read alike, and the bots answer each other. Threads reportedly ended up with more comments than the video had views. Some readers called it internet performance art; others said the comments they wanted were buried.
A developer released an extension that marks and hides the accounts it suspects — he says it caught about 85% in one test section without flagging a person — and it is also a whale-girl, and it asks DeepSeek to check its own guesses.
This week we are talking about the fish in the comment section: what they are, what they cost, and where you would draw the line.
Below are twelve questions in four groups. Pick any that speak to you — no need to answer them all!

=== Discussion Questions ===

A. First Looks
1. What was your first reaction when you saw them — amusement, annoyance, or nothing at all? If you have not seen them, what do you think you would feel?
2. Has your reaction changed since you learned what they actually are — a plugin, a mascot, a flood? Which part of the story moved you, and which part didn't?
3. If the videos are small and the comments are harmless, is the annoyance proportionate? Where would the harm have to show up before you called this serious?

B. What Kind of Act
4. Some call this vandalism; others call it performance art. Which word fits better — and what would have to change before you switched to the other one?
5. From what the reports describe, these bots sell nothing: they summarize, compliment, and beg for rice in character. Is fake enthusiasm harder to be angry at than fake advertising?
6. If you could not tell a machine's comment from a person's, would it matter? Does it matter because the comment is fake, or because you might be fooled by one?

C. Who Answers
7. Who should have stepped in — the developer, the people who deployed it, the platform, or nobody, because a comment section is not a public square? What would you have wanted done?
8. Should platforms label AI comments, or leave it to readers to spot them? Would a label change how you read the comment, or only how you feel about who left it?
9. The people who built the cleaner used the same model and the same mascot as the flood. Does that make the whole thing more ridiculous, or more worrying?

D. Where You Sit
10. Would you run one yourself — an agent that watches videos and leaves comments in your name? Would you tell people, or let them assume it was you?
11. If your post got more comments than usual and you learned most were machines, would you feel cheated, flattered, or nothing at all — and would you delete them?
12. Fifty robot comments or an empty section — which would you choose if you were a small creator nobody watches? And be honest: is that what you want, or what you think you should want?
